Unite Engage Thrive Microgrants

Purpose

The MicroGrants Program is designed to empower LGBTQIA+ communities across Queensland to lead local initiatives that foster healing, connection, capacity, visibility, and wellbeing. It uplifts underrepresented voices across Metro, Regional, Rural and Discrete communities in Queensland, and provides an increased focus on supporting regional and rural community-led solutions.

Who Can Apply?

Applications are open to:

  • Local LGBTQIA+ groups (incorporated or unincorporated)

  • Peer-led initiatives and informal collectives

  • First Nations LGBTQIA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy community groups and community organisations

  • Community organisations or allies

Priority will be given to projects that:

  • Are led by or serve regional, rural, or remote communities

  • Centre intersections (e.g. First Nations, disability, CALD, youth, older people, Trans/Non-Binary)

  • Demonstrate co-design, inclusion, and community relevance and community partnerships

Eligible Projects

Examples of eligible initiatives:

  • Specific LGBTQIA+ community-led initiatives or activities

  • Cultural healing events and yarning circles

  • Art, movement, or storytelling workshops

  • Wellbeing or leadership activities

  • Leadership and Sector Development

  • Visibility and celebration events

  • Safe space or peer group initiatives

  • Queensland-based LGBTQIA+ Sporting & Recreation event activations

How To Apply

A simple two-step process:

1. Expression of Interest (EOI)

  • Short form (online or paper)

  • Includes basic project details and people involved

  • Applications will provide the intended community impact

2. Support Call or Zoom

  • A Queensland LGBTQIA+ Alliance staff member will reach out to support with finalisation

Support Available:

  • Talking projects through with Alliance Staff members assigned to the activity

  • Introductions to local, state and federal members where requested

  • Attendance by the Queensland LGBTQIA+ Alliance CEO or team member, where possible and requested

Support & Guidance

QLD LGBTQIA+ Alliance Role:

  • Encourage and demystify the process for new applicants

  • Provide collaborative support with forms and budgets

  • Connect unincorporated groups to auspice arrangements if required

Assessment Panel Composition:

  • Lived Experience Representative

  • Queensland LGBTQIA+ Alliance Staff Member

  • Local/Regional Community Advisor

Assessment Criteria:

  • Community-led and peer-informed

  • Relevance to local needs

  • Cultural safety and inclusion

  • Feasibility and budget clarity

  • Positive impact on the community

  • Promotes localised participation

  • Builds Resilience, Visibility and Acceptance

Funding & Acquittal

Agreements:

  • Light-touch MOU or contract

Acquittal Requirements:

  • Story-first approach: photo journal, 1-page story, or short video/audio

  • Basic financial summary (template provided)

  • Consent forms for shared materials, where relevant

Ongoing Support:

  • Midpoint check-in

  • Invitations to statewide Roundtables and or the future-facing Peer Workforce Accelerator for legacy building
